Henry A. Achampong, M.D., M.S.

Dr AchampongDr. Henry Achampong completed his undergraduate training at the Kentucky State University in Frankfort, KY. He graduated summa cum laude with a major in Biology and a minor in chemistry. He then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Pharmacology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY. He graduated from University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2005. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at UMDNJ, Newark, NJ in 2009. He completed his interventional pain fellowship at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH.

He briefly spent time as Director of Pain Management at the Mount Nittany Pain Management Clinic, State College, PA. Next, he worked at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE as an Interventional Pain Physician and Anesthesiologist.  He joined Sussex Pain Relief Center in Georgetown, DE, before becoming and employee at Fairwood Spine and Pain Center P.A.

Dr. Achampong is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, International Spine Intervention Society, North American Neuromodulation Society, and the American Pain Society.

Dr. Achampong treats a variety of chronic and acute pain disorders. His focus includes cancer pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and disorders of the spine. He is an expert in both pharmacological and interventional treatment of pain disorders. He is well trained in all interventional pain modalities, including, epidural injections, facet injections, radiofrequency techniques, discography, spinal cord stimulators, intrathecal infusion pumps, vertebroplasty and mild procedure (minimally invasive lumbar decompression).

He is a soccer enthusiast, enjoys running, hiking, ping pong, tennis and traveling.

 

Joseph M. Oppong Jr., M.D.

Dr OppongDr Joseph Oppong is Board Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore. He did his interventional pain fellowship training at University of Virginia Health Systems, Charlottesville, VA under the directorship of Dr. J.C. Rowlingson, one of the nation’s authorities on chronic pain management. He attended medical school at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA, which is one of the pre-eminent medical institutions in the country. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of Richmond, Richmond, VA with a major in Chemistry and minor in Mathematics.

After his fellowship training in 2009, he worked tirelessly to establish Community Pain Management, St. Agnes Healthcare, Baltimore, which employs a multidisciplinary approach to chronic pain management. He worked at St. Agnes Hospital for three years before moving on to co-found Fairwood Spine and Pain Center, P.A.

Dr. Oppong is an advocate for the use of ultrasound-guidance for interventional pain procedures since it eliminates radiation exposure both to the patient and medical provider as seen with the traditional C-arm (X-Ray) machine. He is adept at most of the effective interventions including: epidural injections (interlaminar and transforaminal approaches), facet blocks, nerve radiofrequency ablations, discography, percutaneous disc decompression, spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, intrathecal (spinal) pain pumps, sympathetic nerve blocks, joint injections, and many other techniques.

Dr. Oppong is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology, American Society of Regional Anesthesia, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

For leisure, Dr. Oppong is an avid sports fan particularly soccer and football. He enjoys golf and tennis as well.
